Some say self-care is a hot bath with essential oils. Others claim it\u2019s drinking lemon water before coffee, or finally going to that yoga class\u2014even though your inner thighs have been conjoined twins since 2014.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
I say self-care is hiding in your car in the driveway, finishing your drive-thru fries in blessed silence before going inside. It\u2019s yelling \u201cI\u2019m in the bathroom!\u201d when you\u2019re not\u2014just to buy yourself five minutes of peace. It’s buying the fancy hand soap because the cheap one made your hands smell like industrial sanitizer.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n
Self-care is not always pretty. Sometimes it\u2019s saying \u201cno\u201d to one more school volunteer gig. Sometimes it\u2019s staying in your pajamas all day\u2014hair in a knot, ice cream stain on your shirt, and no intention of pretending otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But sometimes, if you\u2019re lucky\u2014or if you remember\u2014you light a candle, put on music that makes you feel sixteen and invincible, and let the dishes wait. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
